Kia Ora,
The last week has been pretty hectic, first stop was Hong Kong where we had a 24 hour stop-over. After a good flight and being met by Shanes's grandparents we all headed off to Discovery Bay for drinks and dinner over looking the harbour, by now Charlie and I were both very tired but still so excited. The next day we were both up early to make the most of what little time we had, we took the MTR (metro) from Lantau Island to Kaoloon where we had a brief look around before getting the Blue Star ferry over to Hong Kong where we had the best views of the Hong Kong skyline despite the fog and pollution. We walked around central Hong Kong and tasted the local food before heading back to appartment to collect our bags and head to the airport. we were both amazed by the cleanliness and efficiency of Hong Kong and were very grateful for the hospitality shown by Shanes Grandparents so we both agreed it could not have been a better start to the trip.
We then had a 10 hour flight from Hong Kong to Nadi in Fiji, on arrival in Nadi the sun was shining and the heat was immense. We got on the bus to go to the hostel but found we were the only white people on the bus and we were half the size of any Fijian man..... or woman. We arrived at the hostel to find an amazing white sand beach, swimming pool, hammocks, games room etc. We went straight to our room got changed and into the sea and lay on the beach. That night we met up with a group of guests, employees, friends of owners, and the number 1 surfer in Fiji. We sat by the beach drinking the local drink 'cava' and playing 'taki' drinking games. The next day we headed off into the jungle with one of the locals on a trek to a waterfall in the deepest darkest part of the jungle which was incredible. Diving into the cool water, going down the rapids, then back to the hostel. That night we again got together as a group into the early hours of the morning. We then woke to a tropical storm for our last day at the beachouse when we had to say our farewells and headed back to Nadi with an English and Norwegian girl and had dinner on the beach with the most incredible sunset. We spent the next day in Nadi at the hostel with 2 Danish girls and a German guy we had met, we went to the beach and met some of the locals - sadly this was our last day in Fiji. The following day we were up bright and early to meet the Danish girls to head off to the airport together to catch our flight to Auckland.
On arrival to New Zealand (yesterday) we were greeted by James Sclater and his son Henry who took us on a quick tour of Auckland and then back to their very nice house near the beach. We spent the day with Henry and Ollie by the pool or at the beach, as today we are off to Wahiki island to spend a few nights at their beach house before starting our Kiwi Experience bus tour on Tuesday.
Only a week in and all has gone to plan, having a wonderful time. We have both fallen in love with Fiji and were tempted not to leave. Weather was incredible and people were so friendly, very excited about what New Zealand has to offer.
Hope all is well in England and the weather isnt too bad. Thinking of you all in the sunshine.
