Sunday 27/8/17:
Well we're still suffering the blues from our persistent colds and of course the weather changes hourly just to confuse you. Yesterday the 'cabin fever' got to us and so we went for a drive to the bridge over the Waters of Feugh to watch the salmon jumping. They were pretty impressive trying to jump up pretty big rapids that I wouldn't fancy myself paddling. It was good to get out of the house and breathe some fresh air.
Today I thought what Hett needed to lift her spirits was another castle fix! I know it's a tough job but someone has to do it and I don't really mind wandering around draughty castles. So we headed back toward Aberdeen and Drum Castle. This place goes back 800 years with a thirteenth century fortified tower that has been added to over the years, right up to Victorian times. It was very impressive and extensive moving through three different eras. The guided tour was great and pointed out things like hidden rooms in the old tower. This tower has walls twelve foot thick in the basement, nine foot at the next level and six foot at the top.
