We've entered the last month of our trip and boy is it surreal! Our first stop on our Europe leg was London. Most people go to London to get a glimpse of Westminister Abbey, the Tower Bridge or Big Ben. And of course we did all that. But it being royal wedding time, England has a great deal more to offer. Apparently, London has gone royal wedding crazy. We set out one day to see the extent of this royal madness. And we are happy to report that were not disapointed. The shops downtown are packed with just about anything you can think of with the royal couple on it. We found the usual mugs, key chains, magnets, coins, plates, pillows, and spoons with Prince William and Kait's face printed on them. But what was even better were the more unusual items available for purchase. Little did we expect to find Royal Wedding Tea, Thimbles, Ashtrays with the couple face, Paper Weights, Champagne Flukes, and Breakfast Trays. But the winner definitely came in the form of Royal Condoms. Yes, for two pounds (roughly $3.50) you can purchase your very own Kait and William condom, complete with a cartoon picture of the royal couple and the phrase, "And they lived Happily Ever After." If I were William & Kait, I'd send out a royal wedding purchasing party to obtain a collection of all these items.
Although I have no connection to the Royal Family (aside from the regular updates I read at home in People magazine. Which makes me like a distant cousin, right?) I secretly wanted one of each of the items. But alas, my rational side, or perhaps it was Adam's rational side, won out and I was only allowed to purchase a royal magnet (which was what our backpacks & wallets allowed). Oh well. So much for decorating our entire future house with Royal Wedding Memorabilia. Aside from the sillyness of it all, it really has been cool witnessing (and participating :) in all the hype. Afterall, how many royal weddings do you get to partake in in a lifeteime?
