Rosario After the sad farewell to Buenos Aires our home of six weeks,(there's a new postacrd from there, and from uruguay to see too), we decided to spend three days in the nearby city of Rosario (only a 4 hour bus journey, the shortest yet). The only things we really knew about Rosario before we went there was that Che Guavara was born there, there was a tower thing (it is on a 10 peso note) and there is a football team called NOB (Newell's Old Boys). After three days exploring the city that is still all we know really. Our first port of call was the visit the Monumento del Bandera. This is the big tower thingy which is in the pictures. It is the site where Belgrano first rose the flag which he designed. It is framed by a marble fortress and fountain, which are impressive and very cool. The eternal flame also gave us much needed warmth on a chilly day. We took a trip up the tower and were very pleased to find that there was a lift - how very civilised. It gave very good views of Entre Rios, which as the name suggests is the part of Argentina which is between two rivers. It looked a bit marshy but I am assured it is a bit more solid further inland ;0) Che's house was on a very busy road and was marked by the sign you see in the pictures, which were somewhat of a task with the constant moving traffic impeding us! Che only stayed there a very short time as he had trouble breathing due to his asthma. We seem to be doing a bit of a Che trail as we were in his hometown of BA, now Rosario and plan to go to Cordoba where he lived as a young boy. Unfortunately the football season has not restarted yet so we did not get to take in some football, but we did see NOB's football ground, which was very community oriented with a community hall and picnic tables and bbqs outside the ground for fans to use. Lovely. Gemma also got to make the man at the hostel, a NOB fan, very jealous. Whilst we were in BA the whole of the Newell's Old Boys team came to the bar in our hostel for a grand party. Not only were they there, but Gemma has one of the team's shirts which they donated to lovely barman Ronnie and which he was kind enough let Gemma have. The man was very impressed to say the least. It has been a good few days in Rosario, but we are both looking forward to the next adventure. Cordoba here we come....
