THURSDAY 26TH APRIL 2007
Picked up our 4x4 & camping gear & got the ferry over to Fraser island. Headed 1st to Basin lake which was beautiful - really breathtaking & put every1 in an even better mood. After this we drove to cornwells beach where we planned to camp then took a picturesque walk over the sand dunes to lake wabby. was tough on the legs but had great views - were all knacked be time we got there though although all managed to do a running jumpm into the lake which was freezing.all had a few beers sat in the lake - really good afternoon. Then back to camp & the drinking games began - lots of tooheys & goon - not a good mix - everyone fairly drunk - & found the best drinking game 3man!!!! result! made the nights camping a little easier although all the joint dingo-avoiding toilet trips began to take their toll.
FRIDAY 27TH APRIL 2007
All woke feeling a little worse for wear& headed down the beach in the 4x4 taking it in turns to drive. Si who was a bit of a speed demon completely missed eli creek so the next stop was the maheno shipwreck which was pretty neat. Its a real shipwreck from the early 1900s & was pretty cool. We then went to the pinnacles which are huge sand dunes of different coloured sands. we then went up to indian head for some whale dolphin and turtle spotting but failed to see any! then walked further to the champagne pools which were little rock pools that the sea waves came crashing in over. set up camp again for the usual drinks and drama. the lads were paralytic - especially gaz who had to be put to bed in the tent. all fun & games!
SATURDAY 28TH APRIL 2007
all woke up groggy again - no suprises there then! Headed to lake mckenzie which was stunning - the water was really clear along the edge then black in the middle as it was so deep & the sand bright white - paradise. had a mini picnic & our fair share of group photees before heading back to the ferry.Back at the hostel we celebrated nia's birthday with a huge choc cake & some sparkels - felt like little kids again! all in all frasers a definite highlight of the trip. dont think u cud do the east coast & miss it out - was amazing.
