After we had finished our meal at zoomI had a new spurt of energy and although it was about 6pm and we had been walking all day, the sun was lovely and the city was buzzing, I just couldn't get enough, we wandered the main road Nevsky Prospekt which was as wide as the m25, lined with shops and restaurants and closed to traffic today, which meant people could just sit in the road and they did, the road was full of entertainers, rock guitarists, singers, and weird attractions like one were you had to hold on to a bar for three minutes to win money, everyone was having a good time and there was a real party atmosphere the parks were full of people enjoying their selves, we were in the park having a drink and listening to a man playing guitar, when a load of tiny Chinese came pass, each one stopping to take a picture of a statue, everyone of them was lining up to put out their hand to try and make it look like they were holding it, and even though they had just watched all the others do it they acted like they had just come up with this amazingly original idea and each one laughed there heads off, I was going to get up push through the crowd blocking the view and position myself getting Steve to take my picture, only I wasn't going to use my hand, Steve persuaded me not too as we didn't want to spend the night in jail, I probably would have obscured the statue anyway unless he stood on the other side of the street. At one point along the road people were christening the newly laid tarmac by chalking on it, I blagged some chalk and Steve and I added what I believe the kids call tags, i thought it was pretty good for my first attempt, maybe this is how it starts, before you know it ill be scaling bridges and climbing on trains to tag them. We carried on just drifting along with the crowd being swept up in the atmosphere, around 11pm we found ourselves in Palace Square, a giant open area next to the hermitage, surrounded by the biggest most imposingly ornate buildings, in the middle a giant stage had been erected since yesterday, and thousands of people were dancing and singing along to a band on stage that was also displayed on large screens for everyone to see, although it was all in Russian we passed through the gates where I thought we were going to be asked for a ticket and squeezed through the crowd until we were in the thick of it, we had no idea what they were singing but it actually sounded good and the whole crowd was singing along, we just bopped around making noises that sounded like words and clapping with the rest of them, it was a briliant atmosphere although there were a lot of drunk people and it was nearly midnight, there were still families out with their children and it felt totally safe, the concert ended and we made our way to the river to watch the sun set around, it was the most perfect day I can remember, I'm well and truly in love with St Petes. Just time for another walk along the road where people were still partying and a quick Mc d's before falling into bed exhausted.
