After a nice lunch in Yalara we made our first visit into the national park. The first port of call were the large boulder formations known as Kata Tjuta (Many heads) We were explained that both Uluru and Kata Tjuta were formed from debris from the same eroded mountain range - Kata Tjuta being closer than Uluru to the original range and therefore being made up of larger boulder pieces. Well ok - Up early this morning for what would be two long 'Road' days. The first day was the long drive down to Katherine Gorge. We stopped along the way at Edith Falls - another waterhole suitable to swim in as long as you don't mind sharing the water with the freshwater crocs! Well today we arrived at the beautiful Kakadu national park which is due East of Darwin a few hours. Today we arrived in the Town of Darwin. Named by the Captain of The Beagle in honor of his traveling companion - the then little known Biologist and soon to be author of a fairly interesting book about evolution. When we landed we were hit by the sheer heat of the place. It was 39 deg with 100% humidity. We caught a bus to the city centre relatively painlessly and checked into our backpackers.
