As the weather was still crap, we decided to drive back to Rotorua to do some of the things we missed whilst we were there for Katherine's birthday. If your geography is any cop, you'll realise that this is a bit of a ping pong maneuver. But Niall had found out that, this is where the girls from Cathedral Cove were going to be and it also has a better night life than Whitianga. The Mounting Biking is also second to none so I wasn't going to argue. After a five hour detour we made it back to Rotorua where it was still pissing down.Long story short, we had a few beers, I was his wing man, I got bored went back to the van & red my book, he got back an hour or so later no better off!I did chuckle.
After a day in the camper van sorting out Admin stuff (waiting for photos to up load and updating Facebook) I was going a little stir crazy, so couldn't wait to get out in the famous Red Woods for a spot of Mountain Biking.
We hired a couple of bikes, riding someone else's bike just doesn't feel right and I didn't like it, it felt like I was cheating on poor Suzzi who has been sadly left hanging on the garage wall at home. The Red Woods looked quite good at a glance, all the routes were graded and colour coded like a ski resort.Unfortunately the tracks were really badly sign posted, so I managed to get lost a couple of times.Niall doesn't ride, so we did a gentle green run first off, he wasn't quite so happy with the blue which Italked him in to after so he went back to the green again and I tried a red, that turned in to a black, which turned in to a double black which nearly resulted in a broken Barlow. Without SPDs it was near fatal, but great fun. I do miss my bike.
