We arrived at Airlie Beach pretty late at night and the town itself is made of nothing but travel agencies, restaurants and bars, basically just to cater for all the backpackers there to sail the Whitsunday Islands. We had difficulty finding somewhere to park up for the night and so ended up sleeping in a lay-by but atleast we had a good view over the marina! So after leaving the comfort of our couch in Townsville, we decided that we wanted to head inland in an attempt to see a bit of the Australian outback. We had our new and upgraded van delivered to us in Tully and we set off straight away down the coast to Townsville, about 3 hours away. Arriving in Cairns, Australia, was definitely a shock to the system. First of all it was a lot colder than Asia, and secondly the taxi ride into town cost a tenner!
