Our time in Portland was short and sweet. It was time to move on again. We are planning to travel to Sacramento California tonight on a night bus! Our favourite. We checked out the Motel - there was a couple that just checked out before us, and they left their bags. We wanted to do the same as we are not leaving until six o'clock. Except this brunette rude woman behind the desk said they couldn't store any more items. They only had space for a couple - their reception room was massive. It was a joke. The woman had said no. What a Fu*king joke. This Motel is getting 0% reviews! She was really smug about it as well.
The only thing we could do was take our bags to the greyhound station and leave them in lockers for 6 bucks. Otherwise we would have had to carry them around all day. We jumped on the tram down to greyhound and left our bags. We had at least 8 hours before we were leaving.
Returned to the city and had a really nice lunch at a veggie grill place. It was better than food courts. After lunch we decided to walk up to the river again where I had seen a water fountain. When we arrived we saw that the fountain was turned off.. It was definitely working yesterday! Must have been switched off for the winter. There wasn't a huge amount of stuff that we could do before we left this evening. When walking around Portland you notice there is a massive art influence. Art sculptures all over the streets - with this in mind we decided it might be worth checking out the art gallery of Portland. It was up near the university. It was bloody expensive to enter and we didn't get away with out student discount. The older part of the gallery had work from china, India, Asia, Japan, and then had an exhibit of Ancient Greece and sculptures of statues. We didn't pay the extra for this bit - the guy behind the counter said it has actually been taken form one of the gallery's in London. It wasn't really my kind of art. A little to old. The modern gallery was in a different building, some of the pieces were good, but a lot of it was also "in the words of Aaron" tosh. And some bits a little sick and twisted. I think me and Chris could do some better work than the stuff they had on the walls! We left and headed to Starbucks. "The first Starbucks that was opened in Oregon"
We had another look around the city before heading to the Voodoo doughnut shop, the line was still massive but it seemed to go quite quickly, the bit that takes the time is people picking what they wanted, in fact it wasn't easy. They had so many to choose from. I went for one of the voodoo doll ones and so did Chris, covered in chocolate icing, and filled with jam. It was also stabbed with a pretzel stick! It was amazing, but very sickly. The other ones we were going to keep for the bus journey.
It had started to rain again, so we walked across the street and found an Italian. Had a couple of beers waited for the rain to stop before we headed to the greyhound terminal. We finished out beers in perfect timing just as the rain had cleared. Still very grey outside though.
Once at the greyhound. We collected out bags and lined up to get our baggage tags for the 18:45 bus to Sacramento CA. Except on the desk was a sign to say out bus had sold out... A couple of people did get turned away. The next bus wasn't until 11pm. This would mean we would have another 4+ hours to wait. I asked if there was anyway we could go standby - sit around and wait to see if we can get on the bus, she said ok - but as far as she is concerned it as full. We were both a little pissed off. Seeing the passengers line up for our bus, loads of people seemed to be travelling to Sacramento. At the end once everyone had gone onboard we checked with the driver and he confirmed he had seats!!! Thank god, we ran to the desk with our rucksacks to get bag labels and then back to the bus, we didn't get seats together, but we were just across the aisle. I was sat next to this strange guy that kept sniffing, and Chris had a girl with a fat arse that he had to share his seat with! Ha ha! Not sure what was worst.
After a couple of stops we managed to get seats together, Not many people were travelling all the way to Sacramento. It wasn't long before we had our own seats. My seat had finger nails on it - which i had to flick off onto the floor! During this bus journey we were sat near a guy and a girl that sounded like they were from the same hillbilly town. They only really meet on the bus, they were all over each other snogging, the sounds were not nice at all. I had to put my head phones on. At one point he stood up and pulled his trousers up, so not sure what the hell they were doing. When it was her time to get off - she said My partners meeting me! Bye! Sick. Hooking up on greyhound. Classy!
... The night bus continues
