We have been in Sihanoukville the last few days, we've been staying in a bungalow at 'Cool Banana', but spending quite a bit of time at 'Utopia'. We met Sam Wicks from Glastonbury there on our 2nd day, then spent the next few days with him.
Sunday we rented motorbikes out and went to the Market then went to Ream National Park which was about 30km away. When we were biking around the national park we found a beautifull temple with working monastery that had lots of animal sculptures in the grounds. We left the temple and went to fuel up, a crazy lady filled our bikes up with petrol from big glass sprite bottles, she also rambled on in cambodian about how my foot was bleeding then sold me a plaster (I'd kicked a stone in flip flops).
We returned the bikes and stuffed our faces with emperor ape burgers at monkey republic, then we went to the beach for some drinks until Garath and Sam started dancing on the bar then it was home time.
As you might guess we did not much the next day, we went to the beach sprawled out and had fruit shakes. We got ambushed by 3 young bracelet sellers, who in the end made us a free bracelet each just so they could practice their English on us. They do school from 7am to 11am then 3pm to 6pm, in between they sell bracelets and practice their English on the beach with the tourists. Garath got a 1/2 hour foot massage for $2 from a cross eyed crazy local lady.
A little 5 yr old local girl with no front teeth came and sat with us for the next 5 hours, I made friendship bracelets with her from all the spare threads she found in the sand from the older bracelet sellers. Sam and Garath let her attack them every 10 minutes with tickle attacks and she ate most of our chips.
Later her father came to get her, we hadn't realized he was asleep on a sun lounger at the next bar/restaraunt. He stank of alcohol and had only one arm, we found out later from an older lady selling fruit that he lost his arm to a machete as he couldnt pay off his gambling debt.
That night we had seafood BBQ (squid, shrimp, barracuda) on the beach.
This morning we had a movie marathon in one of he DVD rooms at monkey republic, we watched 'The Losers', 'Push', and 'Bruno'. In the afternoon Sam left for Phnom Penh and we booked our ticket to Kampot for tomorow.
