Yamba and Byron bay were both short stops on our way up the coast to Queensland. Both places had stunning beaches perfect for surfing and Yamba was voted best town in Australia 3 years in a row.
In Yamba I had my first taste of surfing when we hired boards and were briefly taught on land how to use them. Surfing proved to be a lot more difficult than I had first thought, like learning to ride a bike all over again but out at sea. I also had my first campfire on the beach which was something I thought I'd see a lot more of when I first came to Australia. Yamba itself was a very secluded small town which didn't have a lot of facilities so I think the main attraction was the beaches.
Byron Bay was quite similar to Yamba except it was a bit larger and had a shopping outlet and a few bars but still with the stunning beaches.
It was nice staying in calmer smaller settlements in Australia for the first time after only staying in cities until this point.
