Singapore 14/06/2008
Singapore is now the best city I have ever been to in my life and this was only after two days for being there, in my view it is the cleanest city I have ever seen and boasts a great transport system and it also feels very safe to walk around as a traveller, our whole experience was great fun and we both enjoyed it allot.
We hoped off our flight from Sri Lanka to Singapore feeling relaxed and refreshed because Singapore airlines are so good at what they do. We found the tourist office at the airport and got ourselves 2 MRT tickets that would last for the next 2 days, the MRT is there version of the underground in London but its allot cleaner and generally all around better to go on. After a few changes of trains we got off at out stop and followed a map to hour hostel called the Blue Dragon, we did get a little lost on the way, which is not great when you have your big bags and it's very hot, but never or less we got there in the end. The Hostel was clean and new, very small room, free wireless internet and was all we needed for the next two nights to explore the city. Once booked in we booked tickets over the web to see a film that night (Indiana Jones) and went out to find some dinner. We got on the MRT to Orchard road, which is one of the main shopping places, very posh and expensive and with lots of places to eat. Once we had grabbed some Tom Yam we took a sort walk up the road to the cinema and sat back as we watch the film, great film and was just like watching it at home because it was all in English. We then headed back home on the MRT for a good night's rest all together the evening had been great fun in a great city.
The following morning we had a little catch up of internet and Blog stuff in our room, using the free WIFI and then went out for a long day exploring the city and doing as much as we could. For the most part of the day we just walked around the main city streets relaxing and taking in the sites, I tried to get a new camera because it is meant to be lot cheaper there. Which it is but only if you get it without an international guarantee. In my mind there is no point it getting one unless it comes with one, because if it goes wrong then you have no come back and for a camera with the guarantee they were the same price as the uk, never mind I think I will have a look on the web.
So we did our shopping a got our bus tickets to Mersing for the next day, by this time evening was going close and our plan was to head to Sentosa island to see the amazing laser show that they have. To get to the island we took a cable car from the city, over the sea and onto the island, we got same great views and was very relaxing. Once we were on the island it was a bit of a letdown but still very interesting, the island has become a bit theme park with lots of places to spend your money and was a bit like Dizerney Land. We only went up the sky tower for the 3600 views and the laser show.We had been recommended the Laser show by a New Zealand man in India, saying that it was one of the greatest things he had seen. In my mind it was a bit s*** and Anna thought the same, it was fun but fun in a five year olds way, it was really aimed at the kids. Once the show was over we headed back vire cable car and MRT for bed, the next day with were off to Malaysia to chill and save some money.
All together I loved Singapore and would like to go back one day but with a bit more money to spend, who knows maybe once I have retired. The two days we spent there I will always remember as being good fun, very clean and safe and a great public transport system, if only London could follow.
