Hello from Hong kong!!
Whoah cant believe i made it here-this is officially my last day in Hong Kong as i have an early morning flight tomorrow so will be waiting it out at the airport tonight! Little bit safer than my hostel! Wanted to personally thank the Sta person who put me in the hostel which is like a prison! Its run by young men, who are only after one thing so you walk in with your ass against a wall! Its fine is you leave early in the morning and come back late afternoon-and just lock yourself in overnight!
Anyways ive done 2 nights, and cant wait to head back to the UK tomorrow. I have done so much in 2 days that, im running out of ideas for this afternoon!
Day 1 in Hong Kong: arrived at 5:30am nice!! haha, got the train into Kowloon, which takes about 20 minutes, onto a bus who drops you outside your accomadation. Staying in the Chungking Mansions on the 16th floor, which has to be the most confusing place i have ever been. The 1st floor is a market type place full of horrible young men, standing staring at you! Arriving with 3 bags didnt help, offers of help came thick and fast-telling them to off it #### off helped! Anyways made it to reception and waited until the man got up 2 hours later! And was told i could have room 3 fine, anyways few hours of sleep later, showered and changed decided to head out.
Didnt go into Hong Kong as too late in the day, so did the markets of Kowloon and the shops....arrived back early afternoon. Headed out about 7:30 to see the light show-avenue of the stars, was amazing. Music and lights together across the Hong Kong skyline was amazing, one of the best things to see in HK and amazing sight at my first day in Hong Kong.
Day 2: nice and early headed out to see the HK skyline in the daylight and to catch the star ferry across to mainland HK. Was as impressive as it described in the guide book, costs about $2.20 about 20p! Lol anyways, took a bus out to Stanley which is one of the biggest markets in Hk and also the cheapest! At the airport in NZ i still had 4kg to play with until my baggage reached the 25kg limit! I think i may have reached it by now!
Anyways picked up the bloody fridge magnets, the owners know who they are!! A few purchases later i thought i had better get out of there before i spent anymore money.
Took the bus back which takes about an hour, to reach the HK rush hour. It doesnt occur at 7-8am like in the UK, instead 11-12am is the main time and is sooo busy!!
Jumped off the bus and decided to walk the rest of the way back since the bus came to a standstill. Went to the great HK restaurant of McDonalds for lunch, which is where the locals go, and costs about 25 dollars-2.50! Not a fan of the Golden Arches but will do until i get back to the UK! Next i walked through Hong Kong Park and to the Peak-one of the best main attraction in HK...was well worth the money taking the tram up and to the Tower at the very top! Was amazing!!
Walked down, and through Central to another market and picked up one of the hats that you cant go home without! Well ive got one now! So a few hours later and dusk setting in, stopped off at the supermarket for dinner, and went back to the hostel. Packed up my stuff, showered (im down to a bottle of shampoo and conditoner and refuse to buy new showergel for 2 days!) and watched the bbc news channel catching up on stuff i have no idea about!
The room im staying is horrible! Theres a metal frame, with wood and a piece of lino which in guess is meant to be the mattress...sheet and the thinnest duvet ever-but i do get 2 pillows! The bathroom, is a cupboard, toilet and sink, with a shower head, held up with sticky tape-hot water is rationed and if your lucky early morning/evening you get some! Lols, ive stayed for 2 nights and proud of it after my earlier thoughts of staying at the aiport-never mind! Anyways, today is my last day in Hong Kong as i have an early morning flight tomorrow. I took the subway this morning from Nathan Rd out to Festival Walk-HK's biggest shopping centre, maybe a mistake for my bank balance but hey it happens!! Lols, so im just hanging out at Pacific Coffee which do the best iced drinks in HK. Just having a chilled day after the last 2, being a bit hectic! heading to the airport this evening while its still light, and staying there tonight as theres no trains early enough in the morning-and good enough reason to get out of the hostel!
Cant wait to see Family and Friends when i get back on Sunday afternoon, sad to leave New Zealand, and would defintely recommend HK but not on your own! Anyways theres still shops i havent been too and still time to visit them! Its been a pleasure writing my blogs to all of you who have been reading them! Travelling is the best thing ever, and my next trip will start to be planned when i get back to the UK!
Cant wait to see you all-thankyou for everything
Lots of Love From
