Luxor, Egypt
After a shaky start leaving JFK, we made it to Cairo on 2/13/10 and then rested until Sunday when we had our first full day of touring. We went and saw the statues in Memphis, and the Pyramids at Giza. As you can imagine they were huge. On Monday we continued our tour and went to the Egyptian Museum where we saw many antiquities and even some real mummies. They still had their teeth and hair. Tuesday, we got up at the ungodly hour of 1:30 a.m. to catch a plane first to Aswan, and then to Abu Simbel. Abu Simbel was great but our tour guide did too much talking. Then we got back on the plane to Aswan and then we were driven to catch our cruise ship. The cruise ship is nice, not big, like the more well known ones are.
Wednesday, we toured Aswan and saw the Temple of Philae, the High Dam and the Low Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk. Later that afternoon, we sailed to Kom Ombo and saw the Temple of Horus and Sobek. I wish we could upload the pictures because words don't do them justice. Thursday, today, we sailed to Edfu to see this temple that had been buried beneath the sand and the villagers had to be relocated when it was discovered. We then went through the locks at Esna. That was interesting, I had never been through a lock before. Now we are in Luxor, and our tour begins tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m. This will be where we visit the Valley of the Kings and Queens, King Tut's tomb and other tombs and temples.
