Woke up after 8am and our guide was already back waiting for us and continuing to spin the hemp. We stumbled down the stairs and had breakfast. This was a stack of pancakes which I added sugar and lemon juice too! We also had sachet coffee, which tasted amazing.
When we had finished breakfast it was time to put back on the muddy hiking boots and continue our trek. As it has rained overnight and we were both tired, we chose the easy option and the road. We first trekked back into the village to cross the bridge before making our way up the hill to the road. We then continued on the road and stopped at a museum. We learnt about the rock formations in the area and about the local dress and traditions of the villages. We then went downhill to a rock to take a photo for caching :)
After the quick stop we continued down the road and then ventured down a small muddy track. The track was full of rocks and bumps and quite steep at some points. We even had streams of water with rocks for us to walk over and try not to slip. We also had to cut through a rice terrace to avoid the mud at one point. When we got to the bottom we could see the waterfall. It was nice, not too much water though because it had all been washed into the river. We crossed the bridge and had a rest at the waterfall before continuing on to lunch.
The trek from the waterfall to lunch was my favourite part. We cut across the rice terraces, walking on the mud between them. The path was only 20cm wide and quite slippery, with rocks to step from one level to the other. Ryan even had a fall whilst taking a video.
Lunch we ate at a local house with some other people who were trekking. The food was amazing, especially the potatoes. At lunch there were no drinks but the lady's husband would get on his motorbike and ride up the hill to get us some. So beer and coke delivered with service.
After lunch it was time to head back into Sa Pa town. First we had to hike up the hill to the road, easier said than done after a big meal. When we were near the road our guide started to call out to her daughter and the daughter called back. Once at the road we had motorbikes ready to take us back. My driver had gone somewhere so I was the last to leave. I didn't realise there were handles to hold so I was hugging him most of the way.
The ride itself went for around 30 minutes but the road was very bumpy. Loose stones and pot holes filled with water everywhere. My driver also liked to overtake people and trunks so even thought I left last I was the first one back at the hotel. Once back our guides daughter had fallen asleep on the bike, no idea how! So cute! We then thanked our guide and had a rest at the hotel.
We had a bit of a rest and did some shopping before getting the bus back down the mountain to the train station. We had dinner at the restaurant with a couple from Broome and then went our separate ways onto the train. Another night train and early morning :(
