We woke Early on 15th June to catch a flight to Mesa, Phoenix to see the band Honor Society. If you've not heard of them, look them up - they are a great up and coming band. My best friend and I had been waiting 3 years to meet them and see them live and the flight felt extremely long due to our excitement.
When we landed in Mesa we were not prepared for the heat that enveloped us. It was 109F when we landed and just got hotter through the day. We took a taxi to the Nile Theatre and walked around for half hour trying to find where we were supposed to go. Fortunately whilst looking we walked past 2 of the band members and were very good and played it cool by just smiling and saying 'Hello'.
Waiting outside was the most tiring thing i've ever done! The heat sapped all our engery and made us feel so ill. One of the opening acts - Action Item- came out with bottles of water and talked to all of us waiting. In all honesty i had no idea who they were but they were nice enough.
We waited for 5hrs in total before we were let in for the meet and greet. We walked in and sat at a long table were Katelyn Tavner, Action Item then Honor Society. They had posters they passed down the table and everyone signed for us. Katelyn was the first we spoke to and asked where we were from. She loved out accents and the news of our travel from the UK passed down the table as we met each band. They were really nice and shocked at how many thousadns of miles we'd travelled.
Lastly we met Honor Society and they were so excited t omeet us - one of our friends had told Andrew on twitter they we were going. We spent about 5 minutes talking to them and my love for them has greatly increased as they were so nice.
We had to wait for about and hour after the meet and greet for the first act. They were very good and did mainly cover songs. The second warm up was really good - Sunnderland - then Katelyn was on and she was AMAZING!! I wasn't expecting to enjoy her set so much.Honor Society were walking aroud the room going to the merch stand and refreshment area between sets and the lead singer - Mike- spotted Lou and I. He kept saying 'you guys!' in a really happy and shocked manner as he couldn't get over the fact we were there. Then Action Item were on and they had tons of fans there supporting them. One of the guitarists kept looking and smirking and Lou and myself trying to get us to sing along like everyone else but we had no idea what songs they were playing, as we'd never heard of them before.
We had to wait until 10pm for Honor Society to come on but it was definitely worth it! They put on an AMAZING show!! Every band member kept looking over in our direction and smiling at our cameras and video recorder. Mike even took the video recorder during the last song and walked around the stage with it! We were so happy to be there but the heat in the room (only cooled by 5 ceiling fans) and tirdness wer taking their toll so we were able to jump and dance like crazy like we'd hoped but it was still awesome. Near the end the boys pointed to us and announced to the room that we'd travelled from England and everyone applauded us. It was beyond words and the night still wasn't over.
We had pre-ordered the next CD before the show started which entitled us to a postshow meet and greet. We were near the end of the line which meant we got a chance to talk to the boys for about 5-10minutes. I was the first to have my photo taken and by this point i had been awake for 24hrs and i think they could tell as Mike put his hands out to steady me if i fell as i walked towards them. Mike hugged me before the photo and when i asked where we should visit in NYC he whispered in my ear :D. I had the photo and then spoke and hugged Alex and Mike again as Lou walked over then spoke to Andrew and Jason and received a hug too. They wished us a safe flight and thanked us for making the trip over. They hoped to be in the UK soon and we replied we would be at every show - completely true!!
We left the theatre and planned on going straight to the airport to catch our flight in 4hrs time but were too tired and checked into a motel for 3hrs sleep before getting a cab to the airport at 3am!
