Fresh from the Butcher
Hi Everyone!
Am now back in good old England, watching daytime TV and eating lots of Cadbury's cream eggs while idly searching for a new job.
My round the world trip was the best experience, and really the hardest part of the trip was simply making the decision to go. I had such a great time travelling, made all the better by the fantastic people I met along the way. Well, most were fantastic, some were just plain annoying, but they obviously didn't make it onto my email list!
So, if you guys are ever in England, and more importantly the great city that is London, then don't hesitate to email.
Here's a quick recap of my trip and just a handfull of the cool people I met along the way:
Guatemala
Jo - my first best mate on my big trip. Let's meet up for some Salsa in London pronto!
Honduras
Jakob - the cutest guy in Utila...I especially like your ears!
Agata - the craziest Swede I've ever met. Loved your drunken bluntness...how many boys have you had on this island? Ha!
Johannes- still the only Icelandic I have ever met. So how is the horror film based on my time in Belize progressing?!
Laura and Caroline - thanks for being a great neighbours in Esperanza. I'll always remember trying to hitch back from Copan with the help of a police escort!
Nicaragua
Klara and Sarah - loved our girl-power against the evil one-arm hostel owner! And climbing what felt like the highest waterfall on the hottest day ever with only the smallest amount of water, only to be overtaken by some 'king of the hill - esque' Americans in 4x4s!
Costa Rica
Bonnie - Loved getting tipsy playing cards in the hot springs and hitching with the American stoners!
Peru
Corrine and Andy - Wow! Salkantay trek was such a challenge, but it was made all the more easier by your company.
Philipe - Had so much fun partying the night away in the Cusco. And a big thank-you for wiping my tears and holding my hand at the police station when reporting the theft of my beloved camera.
Bolivia
Hannah - although we technically met in Peru, it was Bolivia that holds most memories. Flashpacking our way to the pampas and back, yummy sushi in La Paz, taking brilliant care of me in Sucre, surviving artic conditions thanks to your stash of valium in Ushuaia and enjoying Minute Man Pizza! Can't wait to meet up when you return from India
Brian, Conor, Naomi, Hannah, Olly and Simon: the Pampas gang. Had brilliant fun, loved your bowler hats and white shirts, but the highlight of camp life was definitely 'Sing us a tune Brian' on drunken Irish night. Ha!
Fernando and Rodrigo - Thanks to me you made the train! Thanks to you I had such a fun journey and aced through customs, onto a bus and checked into my hostel in record speed and without having to speak a word of Portuguese. Brilliant!
Brazil
Alice - Thank goodness for Harry Potter! I was sure you were Brazilian until I saw you reading the biggest hardback book I have ever seen a backpacker carrying! Had a brilliant time travelling the north and also partying in Rio and Ihla Grande (and Sydney)!
Beth - Also thought you were Brazilian too! You negotiated a brilliant trip to Lencois National Park. Even if we did have to argue very strongly about the price at the end! Also loved partying in Morro de Sao Paulo with the most random toff I have ever met with his tiresome catch phrase 'this is cool, right?' Ha!
Alice, John, Anna, Joe: the Rio gang. It is so rare that a whole dorm clicks so well, and I am so happy that it happened in Rio. From cooking pasta, to all you can eat restaurants, from searching fruitlessly for lame markets to buying lots of football shirts and Brazilian flag sarongs on the beach, from seeing the big man himself: Cristo Redentor, to getting lost in the ghettos - Rio was definitely a ciudad maravilhosa, made even more so by our fantastic dorm.
Argentina
Anna, Chris and Andy: Was Iguacu falls a highlight for anyone? Torrential rain for days, the most miserable hotel staff, having to wear white abattoir-esque rain jackets and no more of my favourite Guarana drink! Thank goodness BA was brilliant, especially the coffee shops, steaks and the vino!
Chris - Remember us skiing with Sebastian? Ha! He was so funny on skis. And he definitely fancied you not me!
NZ
Dave, Emma and Liz: aka the legendary Team Extreme! Without you all how would I have got through the joys of puzzling world, found vinegar for my fish and chips, bungeed the Nevis, learnt the downward v sign, climbed a glacier, skydived over Taupo, played animated rounds of sh*thead and made a very life like Viking long boat?! You peeps are the best.
Australia
Debbie: sooooo many memories. Some of the best - belting out karaoke with the Aboriginals, carrying our backpacks to Broome airport in 40degree heat, while laughing hysterically, appreciating the stromatolites, which only you could manage to make interesting and laughing about the fact that Sarah is 'not an artist'!!!!!
James: total flashpacker - 4 pairs of designer sunnies backpacking! Ha! You are something else!! Loved shopping with you in Perth, partying with you in Melbourne, and you demonstrating your police skills to best effect by breaking into the kitchen to search for TimTams for Debbie and I!
Dan: - my favourite New Year's Eve ever! Can't wait to hear about your S. American stories - in Spanish of course!
Kelly: - somehow we managed to beat the boredom of yet another rainy day in Bondi! Perhaps it was the yummy pizza on the steps in the rain that helped!?
Tina, Lyndsey, Sanjay, Steven and Andy: - east coast partying at its best. Hope all your dreams come true in 2006
Japan (and Australia)
Jilly: - my lovely sister. Partying in Cairns, snorkelling the Whitsundays, camping in Fraser, Skydiving in Mission beach, shopping in Tokyo and Karaoke in a cave bar. We did it all and more! You were great to travel with. Want to go again?
Kisses to you all and happy travels for the future
