Fresh from the Butcher
Hola
Am having a brilliant time scuba diving in Utila island.
My typical day - scuba in the morning, lunch out, laze on the dock all afternoon in the Caribbean sunshine, followed by partying hard all night. Such a tough life!
I only planned to stay a few days to do the Padi open water, but its so relaxing here that I'm now staying until Sunday (so 10 days in total). Yesterday I also completed the advanced course, which means I can now do deep dives too.
Yesterday was the best diving so far, as we got to swim with wild dolphin. It was incredible. As we were going to the dive site, the boat was suddenly surrounded by half a dozen wild dolphin, so we just jumped in next to them. I got to swim right alongside them. Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! On the actual dive, I also saw a giant turtle (just like in finding Nemo!) munching on some coral, and was able to scuba so close to him, again it was totally awesome.
In the evening, I did a night dive (as part of the advanced course). The moon wasn't out, so everything was super dark. This meant that we could see much more phosphorous than usual (think that's what its called!). So when we all switched off our torches all we could see was these tiny lights everywhere - they looked like millions of stars. And when I waved my hand in the water, millions more tiny lights appeared - really cool. I loved the night dive as everything was so still and calm and of course the phosphorous was the highlight, rather than the lobsters that we also saw.
Have 2 fun dives left for the week, and one will probably be a wreck dive. Hopefully I'll also see some whale sharks too as they are in the area at the moment.
I will be sad to leave Utila as am having the best time, have really enjoyed the scuba diving and have also made so many good friends(all boys as usual - don't girls go travelling?). But am looking forward to starting the volunteer project next week. Have already been in contact with everyone who is starting the same day as me, and am planning to meet 2 of the boys in Tegucigalpa (capital city of Honduras) at the weekend. It will also be good to get back into speaking Spanish, as everyone in Utila speaks English.
Love
Lindsx
