Benvenuti a Roma considered by many as the Capital of the World!
We arrived here from Catania, yesterday, on a Blue Express flight. As you know, people love getting close to you in Europe and if we were any closer to people on that flight you could have mistaken us for armpit hairs! Johanna, still suffering from the Etna experience, spent most of her time controlling reflexes that only ever get used after a big night out while Lucy spent regular intervals asking her if she wanted an extra "chuck" bag (just in case!). I sat between them hoping that Johanna wouldn't heave while screaming at her!
After our earlier experiences with Rome airport you could have mistaken us for locals, on this occasion. Our passage to our apartment was seamless. The apartment was another "goody", thanks to Johanna's research, and we settled in quickly then headed out to survey our local environment and also try the pizzas!
Today we had planned to do a walking tour of Rome sites and to visit some shops. We were met at Piazza di Spagna by Paolo (Tony's cousin) who knows the landscape well here. Unfortunately, after visiting Fontana di Trevi the rain came pelting down and we were forced, wet and miserable, to return to our apartment. Another shopping day missed according to Johanna. I just smile and keep quiet!
The afternoon proved better weather wise so we headed out for a token shopping trip to Ottaviano. Not much eventuates from this though! Unlike the airport, the metro trains here are awesome! Clean, bright, safe and efficient. Thumbs up to that experience, Roma!
