Much like Genova, if you're into architecture you will probably have an orgasm here (sorry, again to those with a weak heart!). The Baroque style here is impressive and while I'm not an expert on architecture, I can't help but be impressed. The main street here is called via Etnea; aptly named because at one end you can see Mt Etna! Apart from the view of the volcano, you could forgive yourself for also being distracted by the multitude of shops on this street. Via Etnea heads into Piazza Duomo. Here you will find the principle church of Catania, U Liotru - the elephant state symbol of Catania and also the Fontana Dell'Amenano which is the fountain I spoke about in yesterday's blog. While in the piazza we were lucky enough to encounter some of Johanna's old friends and I have attached photos for you to look at.
Navigating here is difficult and tricky. Information is not easy to get and sometimes it is incorrect. Nothing new for Italy but it seems to be a little worse here. If you plan to drive in Italy give Catania a miss. I'm still trying to work out which side of the road they drive on. Everything shuts here at 1pm and reopens at about 3.30pm. On the first day, I couldn't work out where all the people went and thought I'd had a Monza moment (remember!) then I realised that it was lunch time! Phew!
For those that may be interested in knowing Lucy is still eating and annoying, Ruby has threatened to leave on several occasions but even after agreeing that it was a good idea has stayed put and Dahlsen claims that he can't wear the hat anymore! Damn!
Our passage home today was along the Cyclops Riviera. We got off the bus and made the trek home on foot and managed took some good photos. I have to go because Lucy is calling me for dinner. It's pizza tonight - yes, again!
