After our long day and night we slept in until 9:00 am. We took our time getting showered and unpacked before reading the daily information sheet. At 9:45 I discovered that breakfast concluded at 10!
I then read through all the meal information. Unlike other cruise ships, food is not as easy to come by out of "normal hours". Never mind, we found "late breakfast" out on deck. Italian of course, bread rolls, cold meat, cheese, fruit and cakes. I wasn't impressed that the hot water to make tea is turned off at 11:00 am as well.
Lunch was 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the buffet, but of course, Anthony decided he wanted some lunch at 5:00 pm to sustain him until dinner (despite my warnings of the 4:00 pm cutoff), but he did manage some small rolls and an éclair.
We did venture into Trieste after our late breakfast and wandered through the streets and the main square. We stopped in the sunshine to listen to a busker playing his accordion before deciding that a gelato was in order. We sat in the park enjoying our treat before we returned to the ship.
Anthony found some bike racing on TV (in Italian of course) and he watched it for awhile before joining me up on deck by the pool. He then ventured down to visit the maître'd and successfully changed our dinner seating from tomorrow night. He was a happy chappie.
Tomorrow we arrive in Split and we are going to meet up with an old Baxter colleague, Mark Pecar, for lunch. He just happened to be in Croatia at the same time! The last time we saw Mark we bumped into him at the closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
