Test Run
Spent most of the day in the enormous Dubai Mall - quite an achievement for non-shop-going Geoff. We actually hardly entered any of the thousands of stores & didn't buy anything except food but had a great day. The high end stores, fashion & souk are frequented by local Emerati who seem to shop in several groups - tall, dark & (very) handsome young men wearing their immaculate white kandura robe & white headscarf ( or black baseball cap!) Young women in pairs often almost completely covered from head to toe in black abayas. Those with exposed faces are almost all beautiful with long black eyelashes. Some of their abayas are decorated with colored inserts or jeweled bands. The other group are young couples, often with a baby. Didn't see many older people & I wonder if the beautiful black hair goes grey or do they colour it like in Asia. We had a fun time experiencing the huge indoor aquarium then caught the new train to the end of the line - just to see the scenery. Enormous highrise then desolate desert - an interesting place. Back to go up the Burj Khalifa at sunset - currently the tallest building in the world. Spent a couple of hours there enjoying the hazy views of Dubai below looking like toytown from so high. Dinner in the delicious Wafi Gourmet with complimentary hand gel, dips & unlimited hot puffed bread.
