We arrive in Cartegena around 8pm, chuck our bags in the hostel and hit the town with an Ozzy lad we met, supposedly Thursday is a big night so we can't go mssing that! We head to the old town and buy drinks from street vendors, about 70p a bottle of beer, bargain. I manage to stumble through a conversation with a Colombian girl in Spanish, Angie, an artist in town for an art event. Slowly picking up the lingo. We head to a bar that actually plays music other than salsa and samba, recognise a few songs to show the locals how to dance English styleee!
Next day we walked around the old town, cobbled streets, lots of alleys and narrow roads with big townhouses, horse drawn carts take up the roads along with taxi's, all of the old town is surrounded by a stone wall, which when we climbed up the caribbean sea was only meters away. Some guy joined us at our table, claiming to be the number one drug dealer in the city, goes by the name of Jonny Walker, we listen to his spiel and send him on his way, there are ten a penny of his kind, all trying to scam the tourists, but we know better!
Saturday arrives and we decide to take a lazy day, the guitar purchase was a good one for days like these. In the evening we visit a local bar and then head to a square where we bump into a few other travellers, exchange stories over a few drinks, all very friendly, we are starting to gather up a few stories and tips of our own now!
Sunday we check out and take an overnight bus to Medellin. Pablo Escobars hometown, 15 years ago it was one of the most violent cities in the world, but it's meant to be a little more safer nowadays, I hope!
