What a world! You hear all these tales of danger and how buses are soooo slow that you'll come up with quantum physics equations before it hits your destination. Too bad were so intuitively good at choosing buslines that we were in Malindi by 9.10am. What a shock, right on time! And no, it's not dangerous. More dangerous than riding a Finnish bus, sure, but as long as the driver is sober (which was our case) they are able to get you from one point to the other ...

So, our first 2 days of contact with Africa was nothing less of a shock. Mombasa is supposedly one of the biggest cities in Kenya, with over 880000 habitants and boasting a colorful history as a portugese/british port town with numerous trade routes to Asia. With an age of over 450 years, you'd think they would have found the time to develop Mombasa into a contemporary city. Wrong. This is Africa at it's core, broken down shacks, sheet metal-supported buildings...
