"Three hundred and forty", the waiter declares. I lift my head and shake off the neon light daze to stare at the bill that he has brought me. Smoky aromas of burned wood… A cat howling for a bite to eat… Kenyan politicians fighting on the screen… Two people, drinks, meals and catering levy… three-forty. For a minute I wonder if my eyes and ears are still betraying me because of the dance of artificial lights beside me. I roll the number in my head a couple of times, trying to find my way around it, slowly making sense of just how little my African friend is asking for a two peoples night out. Too little to buy a big mac back home. Too little to get a decent sandwich, for that matter. Too little to buy a pack of smokes… and here I am, paying less-than-a-big-macs-worth for 2 meals, 2 drinks and service. I shake off the feeling, realizing he won't be needing 4 euros to pay off any overpaid, corporate fast food-chain employees to enjoy a decent sub. I lay the greens on the table and round them up a bit as a thanks for good service and maybe, just maybe, because I don't have a 10-shilling coin with me. "Such is life", I acknowledge to myself and depart the establishment with my gal, walking off into the African nightscape: black as the malindians themselves.After a few hundred meters, I stop feeling guilty about paying only 3,2 eurosfor meals that could have made a grown up man cry.

Our first safari is not yet over, but already we've seen Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes… oh, and did I forget to mention that right before we went driving back towards the lodge we ran into a pack of wild dogs feasting on a beast they fell? AND that it is very rare to see these animals, let alone them feasting! Man, the only animal we didn't see was the rhino, but those are even more rare than the wild dogs. All in all, best 165 euros I've spent in a long time. There's simply too much to write about, so I'll just be contempt in saying that it was an amazing experience in all aspects and I hope that the rest of our safaris go half as smoothly. Kiteytän viime viikon koska en jaksa kirjoitella sen enempää. Geden rauniot tuli nähtyä, mentiin sinne matatulla joka kiersi poliiseja ja ajoi viidakon läpi paikallisten lehmänlantatalojen ohi. Sinä päivänä illalla alkoi ripuli ja kuume. Yön aikana kuume nousi 39 nopeasti ja jäseniä särki, oksentelin ja ripuloin. Kiva, nimittäin seuraavalle päivälle oli varattu 2-päivän safari tsavon luonnonpuistoon, joka oli jo kertaan jouduttu siirtämään järjestäjän puolesta. Aamulla soitettiin lääkäriä ja hän tuli jopa hotellille suoraan, ei tarvinnut lähteä minnekään. Ruokamyrkytys. Antibioottia naamaan. No, ei ole erikoista minun vatsallani. Piti siirtää safaria taas päivällä, pahin nimittäin meni yhden päivän levolla ohi. Näin reissatessa, onneksi on aikaa!

Sitten viimeinkin päästiin safarille. Upeaa. Haluan heti uudestaan. Mikään ei voita sitä kun näkee upeita Afrikan eläimiä omassa ympäristössään. Norsuja, kirahveja, buffaloita, antilooppeja, krokotiileja, hippoja, leijonia, villikoiria ja lista senkun jatkuu. Sarvikuono, leopardi ja gepardi jäi tällä kertaa näkemättä, kaikki melko harvinaisia, mutta meillä on vielä monta safaria edessä! Villikoirat on myös harvinaisia, tsavossa vain muutama lauma (tsavo on kenian suurin luonnonpuisto) ja oltiin niin onnekkaita että päästiin näkemään 20-päinen lauma syömässä vasta metsästämäänsä ateriaa aivan tien vieressä! Auringonlasku ja nousu kruunasivat kauniin Afrikan luonnon. Näkymät olivat mahtavat voi safari lodgesta. UPEAA! Älkää karttako Keniaa tai Afrikkaa vaan jos luulette että on vaarallista, se on harhaluulo mikä korjaantuu tänne tultua.

Huomenna matka jatkuu Lamulle. Ramadan loppui eilen, ulkona on isot bileet jotka luultavasti pitää meitä hereillä aina aamuun asti mutta ei haittaa! Meiniki on katossa. Kokemuksia sen kun kertyy.
