Penny's travels
hello there back again!
so we eventually found the office for our sailing trip only find out what we had booked was not exactly as we had been led to believe, there were no dives incuded which i wanted and it was not exactly a sailing boat which Shell wanted so after chating with the office Shell decided to upgrade to another boat (i did not want to spend more money)and after being promised a free dive i decided to stay on the original boat Wings. My boat was booked to go the following day and Shells 3 days later.
I had a great time on the trip with 22 other people onboard ,we set sail around the Whitsunday islands which are amazing,we stoped for a while at white haven beach which you can see in my pics it was amazing the sand was so fine and white and great for cleaning your jewellery! We then sailed around a few of the other island and went to a few dive sites, some of the pics from this you can also see on this site. The cabins on the boat were a bit cramped and stuffy to say the least so i decided to sleep on deck and had a perfect nights sleep being woken up by fish jumping up and spashing me,everyone was complaining about how badly they had slept and i made the mistake of telling them how great it was sleeping under the stars so half the boat decided to join me the following night,oh well i'll keep my mouth shut next time!
I arrived back on dry land 3 days later to find Shell had left me a note in my car saying the backpackers were looking for someone to do the bar for free accomodation so off i went to ask and sure enough i got the job and started that night(better than sleeping in a tent for another week).I decided to stay and work in the bar for a couple of weeks to save some money and this then led to me getting a job as a bus driver after Annika left so i was now getting paid and decided to extend my visa and stay for a couple of months. In this time i met some great people and had a fantastic time and managed to fit in another couple of boat trips and a few more dives!I really enjoyed the bus driving job and we had great fun down the bus stop playing tricks on each other and water fights virtually daily (Bill the other bus driver for BBB always kept a bucket handy) and on one evening bus run in did get a bit of a shock when a huntsman spider ran over my foot(i hate spiders)it was really big and hairy but i thimk i was to shocked to scream!
Unfortunatley i had stayed in Airlie long enough so it was time to leave so when Guy came to visit i finished work (getting drenched on every bus run on my last day) and then spent a couple of days in Airlie showing Guy around and doing a skydive which was absolutely amazing and will def have to try again!
Saying goodbye to everyone was not nice but we did have a few good nights out in the last couple of days and a few good hangovers to remember Airlie .
I had told Guy that i would then drive him down to Brisbane so he could cath his flight,so off we set for the long drive back down the coast with only one small hiccup on the way when i had a blow out and not all the tools i needed to change the tyre, after flagging down an extremely friendly truck driver we were on our way again! just one stop over for the night in Marybourgh and then straight to Brisbane the next day.
catch up with you all in Brisbane bye for now Pennyxxx
