The tent I slept in, national park Llanos de Challe. Someone borrowed me a tent after we pulled the pickup out of the sand. - The rear axle was held by a stem of a plant so little that I ignored it when i tried to back the car. And once you got stuck the spinning traction wheels dig the car deeper and deeper into the sand. For at least half hour I tried in vain to remove that stem with its root with my bar hands lying under the truck, head literally in the sand. Eventually the cavalry in form of one of these oversized 4x4 Dodge RAM 2500 had to pull me out in repeated attempts. Including the ruptured rope this was the Sunday evening event for the whole campground. The bottom line is that you aren't fitted with a 4x2 for loose sand and never underestimate mother nature. - If that all wouldn't be enough, at the end of the day a guy named Ludwig brought me a cold beer - that how nice Chilenos are! And how good it tasted together with the fresh bread and the canned tuna.
