Hi everyone. Not sure how long i'll be on here, i have to go to the supermarket to buy exercise books and pens for the kids when we visit an orphan school in the next few days. Wow, I have had a very exciting week, it's been awesome!! My tour group is lovely we're having a wonderful time! I think I emailed last on Monday so I'll try and catch up from there. Monday we went to Lake Mburo national park where we stayed for one night. We woke up on Tuesday to the sound of hippos and warthogs honking and grunting, very cool. That morning we went on a walking safari with an armed guard (just in case anything charged us) but there are no big cats in that park so we weren't in any danger. We saw a stack of zebras, they are so pretty I took way too many photos. We also saw a variety of antelopes, some of them are so funny when they run. When we got back to the campsite there were baboons sitting on the ground right near where we had pitched our tents the night before. So cute, their bums are blue and red it's really funny.
We left early that morning and headed for Queen Elizabeth National Park. It was quite a drive, the roads are bumpy and not always in the best shape but it was fun. We looked down on the park from a mountain on the way and it is just beautiful. The pictures aren't that great because the air is really hazy here so it's hard to take good landscape photos but you can sort of see what it's like. We saw some elephants on the way in, so cool, loved it. The campsite was really nice, much better than the other one. This one had flushing toilets (the other we had to squat) AND hot showers. It really was a luxury. We went on a couple of game drives that day and the day after but we didn't see much other than elephants and antelopes. The elephants are just incredible. They all had little babies which are sooooo cute, again I took way too many photos. On Wednesday we went on a boat ride down the Kazinga channel, which joins Lake Edward to lake George. We saw stacks of hippos, they are so funny and I got this video on my camera where there was this elephant in the water. We scared it so it tried to run away but there were buffalo in the way so it was charging them and making sounds, the video is awesome. The boat ride was lovely, we saw a fishing village as well which was interesting.
Yesterday we went to Kyambura Gorge to track some chimpanzees. Apparently 5 types of primates live there but unfortunately we only briefly saw a monkey and a chimpanzee. The chimp came really close to us which was amazing but I was too preoccupied to get a really good close-up picture. The game drive in the afternoon was a disappointment for much of it, but about 1/2 an hour before we went back I was on the roof (4 of us can sit up there) and I saw this tail moving through the grass. I sat there and was like hmm (because we had seen so many warthogs before that and thought they were lions) and then I was like oh my god, and it was a leopard. Very cool! We also saw a male lion on the way back too, really amazing.
Ok, really have to go now, but I'll check back angain hopefully soon with more details. Bye guys, miss you. Sarah
