We got the greyhound from LA to San Diego. It really wasn´t bad at all and only took a few hours. I knew Í would like San Diego as we arrived. It had a good atmosphere about it. Our first night there Rhona flew in to join us. We were staying in a newly renovated hostel which pretty much resembled a warehouse. It was rather strange.
The next day we set out to see the sights. Our first stop - was, well the mall! However after that we did see the sights. We went on the open top tour bus and got driven around all the major places. The bus took us along the harbour, through the Gaslamp Quarter, through Little Italy and Seaport Village. We got off the bus in the old town for some lunch. It actually felt like we were back in time in the old town. All the buildings were old fashioned and the staff were dressed in costume. We found one shop where they were making salt water taffy. As none of us had tried it before we bought some. It was actually very nice, although a bit sticky. We then got to try our hand at old fashioned gambling, not with any real money though. I have no luck whatsoever so will need to take it easy when we´re in Vegas doing it for real!
Near our hostel was San Diego´s baseball ground. That night we went to our very first ever baseball game. We saw the San Diego Pedres lose against the Milwaukee Brewers. The stadium was huge and there was an attendance of 32,300 people! It was just like you see it in the films. They sang the anthem, there were big foam fingers, people selling hotdogs and all that. People really get into it. It was everything I hoped it would be. It was fun to go to, although it did last 3 whole hours, rather long if you ask me!
The next day we moved hostels as there was no room in our current one. This seems to be a recurring problem in America. You really need to forward plan here! We´re not used to that. Anyway our new hostel was nicer and more homely so it worked out for the best. That afternoon we took a bus out to Balboa Park. It was a lovely place with lots of nice buildings. I enjoyed our afternoon there. We took the free tram around then visited the science centre. We spent ages mucking around with all the gadgets. We also went to see an Imax show which I think all 3 of us almost fell asleep in!
From San Diego we were to go to Mexico. It proved really difficult to plan. As for booking anything it was a nightmare! Our Spanish isnt up to scratch. However at midnight we finally had a flight booked for the very next day. Talk about leaving it till the last minute!
