Day 2 in Madrid
Today has been a long one and not exactly successful. I woke up bright and early at 6 in order to prepare form the meeting with Mr. Antonio Ross of Liberty Seguros. After making contact with him, we pushed back the meeting to noon. It gave me more time to prepare and worry. I made my way to the Liberty Seguros and after a number of run arounds, I was able to find him, I had a great meeting with him and learned a lot about Spanish operations. It amazes me how different the market is from the States and those key differences effect the entire business. When I first met with him, I found out how stressed this month is with their main business consolidating and eliminating policies by doing so. It was a very good meeting but a horrible interview.
The interview attempt was a failure for a number of reasons that are and are not my fault. The parts that are my fault deal with my complete comprehension and fluency with Spanish. I need to improve it to be considered right on the spot. I wasn’t very aggressive either, because I didn’t want to be seen a pushy jerk. But it is no longer easy to obtain jobs here in Europe. Many countries, especially Spain, have adopted strict foreign immigrant policies. So Liberty Seguros would have a very difficult time getting me a visa especially since I’m not employed with liberty yet. It would be much easier to attack this thought of working abroad by gaining employment in the states then transferring over to Spain from the USA. So the opportunity to work in Spain has run dry but I did have a great meeting that educated me on the Spanish consumer. So it works out in the long run I guess.
Now, I will explore Madrid for my time left here. I have a flight tomorrow at 4 but I can still enjoy the night life and sight seeing tomorrow. I will see you all later
