I know what you are thinking: "don't let Rhiannon near the blog again!" Well i'll try but I think you can expect lots more from her as she seeks to cement her legendary status. Just wait for her "thoughts on New Zealand blog" coming very soon.
I know this is the third entry for Taupo but lots happened there and I just wanted to add my congratulations to Rhiannon for doing the skydive. I can confirm that it did in fact happen, she really did jump out of that tiny little plane (you can now see photos of it!) from 12,000ft and landed safely, which is a relief considering her tendancy to injure herself. How can you jump out of a plane and not get a scratch but lacerate your achilles riding a bike? God knows!
She was very brave indeed as she had talked the talk for weeks about a skydive but I had my doubts about whether she would walk the walk when it came down to it. But after waking up thinking that she was just going to go kayaking a few hours later she was trying to fly. The kayaking was really good by the way. Two or three hours in the water on Lake Taupo to go and see some mauri carvings that are only accessable by boat. Rhiannon was panicking whenever a big wave came our way so even when she began to talk about skydiving I never thought she'd do it.
Getting ready she looked pretty nervous, confiding in me that she had missed the safety video and that she couldn't understand the accent of the guy she was jumping out of a plane with. For my part I felt almost as worried as she did, perhaps remembering that I had assured her mum and dad that I would look after her this time and yet here she was skydiving whilst I remained safe on terra-firma. That got me quite a few comments and disdainful looks from the skydiving blokes and other divers who obviously viewed me as the kind of guy who always has a note from his mummy come P.E time and it was all I could do not to walk around yelling "Look I have done one of these before you know and I did a bungy yesterday which is a lot worse than a poxy skydive! So why don't you go and get a real job...and a haircut".
The rest Rhiannon has told you in her blog. She is a legend and I was very proud of her and very impressed. Well done Rhiannon!
