Heading to Davenport Range NP stopping at Daly Waters (night 1) and Banka Banka (night 2).

Early start allowed us to check out Oenpelli arts and craft store (which was way overpriced), and still reach Cahill Crossing before the water level was too high (tidal). We reached Cahill Crossing (East Alligator River) at 8.15am at almost low tide. This meant the crossing was a non-event. The 300km of dirt road to our campsite was about as good as we had hoped - lots of bone-jarring corrugations but also some quite well-maintained sections. First day in Kakadu was in Jabiru. Not much there other than a pool and a great bakery. Next day we checked out Bowali Visitor Centre then headed to Madrugal campground for a 2-night stay and booked the Yellow River cruise for next morning departing at 6.45am. It was excellent and makes it clear why Kakuda deserves to be a world heritage-listed park. The birdlife was incredible as was the presence of numerous crocs. Advised that the mozzies were thick and fast at campground near Mary River but found they were only out and about at dusk for an hour or so - went to bed early - problem solved. New NP still being developed. Tomorrow Jabiru.
