Our Trip to the Perhentians!
We left Penang early from the nice hotel, the flight from Penang to Kota Bharu was great, 40minutes from take off to landing! Only had 40 seats on the plane an we even got given orange juice an a pain au chocolat, wonderful! We then got a taxi to the pier which took about an hour. Here we picked up the speed boat to the island. It was really quick, one of those ones that your tummy goes because it goes so high an fast over the waves.
So we arrived on Kecil, the smaller of the two Islands an it seemed lovely! We walked over to the DRock hostel were we had heard it was cheap to stay. The room they gave us was a shed! For starters, no wifi - can live with that no probs, secondly, no bathroom, again ok no biggy we have shared in loads of places now. But to put the icing on the cake, the room was at the top of a cliff with no bed sheets! This was to be our home for 2 dreadful nights. The bathroom was clean but a 5 minute walk away! Forgot to mention...the receptionist was such a dog! But again if you pay £10 a night what do you expect! When we were checking into the hotel hauling our bags up the hill a huge huge monitor lizard just started waddling past. Nearly had a heart attack. There were actually hundreds of them on the island an many of them living by our room. There were also really cheeky squirrels who nicked everything in sight!
The beach it's self was lovely, white sand clear blue water an not full of British people like the thai beaches!
Rach an Colin met us here on the first night. They arrived round 6ish an the poor things didn't get a room till 8! Finally found a little restaurant that had wifi but not for long, comes an goes all the time apparently.
We spent the next day booking our way out of here to KL an chillin on the beach. We went swimming round the coves for a while as well which was brill. Some colourful fish but lots of little secluded bays. We went up to get a shower an get changed etc an you will never believe it....mike pulled back the curtains and this huge Gekko was there. Chillin out on our door!!! We had kittens! Took us ages trying to shoo it away but he wants budging. In the end I picked up the mirror he was hiding under to try an get him out but he was stuck to it, so i put it outside an prodded him with a flipper!! He ran off thanks god. There's a pic on here of him. We chilled out in the evening an sat by a camp fire. Colin an Rach decided to come with us to KL...not fans of the island either!
