Ben & Zella's travels
We arrived in Ko Tao after a v.long journey not knowing where we were going to stay that night. We went off to a tinternet cafe and bboked ourself into AC resort right on the beach wiith our own swimming pool. Here we chilled after our journey and had fantastic BBQ fish for dinner sitting out over the beach with our feet dangling through the floor very novel.
the next day we wanted more solitude and relaxation so decided upon laem thian bungalows. the owner's husband picked us up and we rid on the back of a pick up to the other side of this v.small island (21 km squared). The journey was like something out off alton towers it was immense, up and down these massive dirt tracks strewned with massive boulders and us holding on for dear life with a can of diesel rolling everywhere. When we arrived the view from our bungalow was postcard stuff and we even had a massive gecko to keep us company when in the shower. The owner Ping Pong, yes that is correct was a consumate host and we played with her 1 and a half year old daughter and listened to the stories Ping pong would tell. We only got power through a generator from 7 at night to 7 in the morning.
The snorkeling here is fantastic and we have seen numerous reef sharks some up to 4feet, we were told they are more scared of us but i'm not too sure. There are massive rocks to jump off from and into the sea which i loved but the lack of AC and the mossies were less than ideal. I also got to play with fire which is every boy's dream, the locals light the ends of chain on fire and swing it about themselves, good fun. We spent lots of time chilling in the shade and eating the cheap food Ping Pong and her crew cooked. Zella loved her banana pancakes in the morning.
On the last night we met up with an aussie we met on the overnight bus Sam and his mate Brian (Bruce). We drniked the night away during a power cut and chatted to this Canadian who was fitness mad and a french girl, then with some drunk Dubliners who were there for the craic.
We had enough of the sun bathing and beach life after 5 nights on the island in total so we are off to the mainland for a spa hotel, looks v. fancy and v.cheap what a combo.
