Ben & Zella's travels
Landed in Sydney in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday. Caught the train to our hostel which was only 15 mins away from the airport. En route to the hostel we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the sydney harbour bridge and to see Sydney waking up.
Arrived at our hostel around 7am and checked in. Attempted to work through the tiredness and stay up but our bodies were having none of it and we hit our bunks in our dorm. It was so nice to be cool and to have a duvet to snuggle under instead of being boiling in bed.
After our cat nap we went on a walk down to Darling Harbour which was just around the corner of our hostel. The weather was perfect for tshirts and trousers but with a jumper in the evening. We then wandered down to the Sydney harbour bridge where we just missed the sun set due to the massive number of stairs leading up to the bridge from the Quay side. The views are amazing.
We looked over to the Sydney Opera house and had a walk over. Sydney is gorgeous. It's so peaceful and calm, which is strange for such a big city.
After walking around for a few hours we headed back to the hostel where we got talking to a couple of English guys and we all headed out drinking till the morning!
The next day and a not so early start as we felt a bit tired after the flight and the previous night, we went to the Sydney Aquarium which was amazing. There's a big underwater tunnel where reef sharks (just like the ones we swam with in Koh Tao) and nursing sharks swim around you - incredible.
One of the other main attraction was all the fishies which were made famous from the Finding Nemo movie.
On the way out there is a massive tank with sharks, rays and many other fish and you can sit on the step looking into this underwater world through what was like a massive picture frame with the glass piece being around 4x6metres - stunning. So relaxing we both could have stayed there for hours. (Best fish tank in the world)
After spending a good few hours there we headed off for an early meal. Tried the infamous Doyles seafood restraurant which has moved onto the Keys overlooking the opera house. Menu looked great but our budgets held us back so we headed up into the city where we found a great hotel the Orient that served beer battered fish and chips (which was also on the menu at Doyles) which hit the spot.
On our last day in Sydney we went to Bills in Darlinghurst for coconut bread. We certainly worked up an appetite walking there which took us longer than expected, but it was worth it (Cheers James and Nic - Yummy) as the breakfast was gorgeous. After filling ourselves up we walked down through the Botanical gardens (These are gorgeous a real escape from the city, and there are wild parrots flying around which was cool to see) to the Opera house for the hour tour which takes you around a few of the halls (really interesting) The guide also told us about the construction. A build which should have cost $7million actually cost just over $100!
That evening Ben went out with the boys and cant remember most of the night after a couple of solicitors kept buying him drinks all night! It would have been rude to turn them down i suppose. Meanwhile i did laundry and had tea and toast with this NZer whos living in Sydney and was telling me all about NZ which also sounds great.
The next day we headed off early to pick up our campervan !!!!!!!!
Love to all. Will update soon on our adventures in the campervan
Lots of love Zella nd Ben x x x x
