We awoke early and the morning was cool, it had been surprisingly cold in Queensland for this time of year or had I just forgotten? After having spent three months in the warmth of a Territory winter maybe it wasn't unusual, maybe I was just being a girly man! Naah!! Whatever the case it was goodbye to Longreach and hello….next stop.

Not far down the road was a gem of a town called Ilfracombe, I had never heard of this place, I'm not Robinson Crusoe there I'll bet. It doesn't matter how many towns or places you visit there are still many many more that you have not been to. But if history is of any interest to you, you may well find this place as fascinating as we did. As you drive into town you are greeted by some spectacular old trucks and farm machinery lined up beside the road for all to enjoy.

In addition to that they have a number of old buildings filled with incredible memorabilia suited to just about Everyone, I won't spoil it but if you are ever in that neck of the woods drop on by. And it's all free but a donation is most appreciated and helps fund the wonderful displays. If you love taking photos this town is a goldmine.

Barcaldine was another pretty town, some beautiful old architecture as well as modern shops with very reasonably priced goods. We enjoyed a sumptuous feast in the park, dry bikkies, salami, cheese, dip and tuna, mmmm, makes the mouth water doesn't it? This place for its size has more pubs than you can poke a stick at and a visit to the "Tree of Knowledge Memorial" evokes some kind of mystical spiritual experience. Why? I do not have the foggiest idea, but many people were drawn by its presence. A lot of effort has gone into signage around the place describing what original old buildings stood where and when and gives you a great insight in to the history of the town. By all accounts it was either an unlucky place or it attracts more than its fair share of pyromaniacs, they seem to have had more fires than pubs, in fact one of the fires unfortunately reduced the number of pubs.
