FARFRUMWURKEN
First off I'd like to wish my grand daughter Hannah a very special Happy 2nd Birthday today. She is truly one of the great loves of my life. Over the last 730 days you have grown into a beautiful, amazing little girl – know that I have thought about you each and every one of these 730 days. No matter where I am in your life, know that I carry you with me always - Happy Birthday Sweetheart.
Today the seas are angry, our huge ship is rolling in the waves as we wake up to breakfast at the door. Tonight is our second formal night on onboard so it’s back into the penguin suit for dinner.
A review of the daily ON LOCATION newsletter that we receive at our door seems to draw me back to the Casino time-after-time. All that’s really happening today of interest to me is the blackjack and slot tournaments or Texas Hold’em cash games. I think Deb’s drawn to the flower arranging seminar later today.
So far I’ve taken some 1,500 pictures in 5 ports, if the trend continues I could exceed the 5,000 mark – hopefully I can narrow these down to the top 10 once I get home. As I lay here typing my blog updates on the bed in our cabin, right at the headboard we have a speaker – all of a sudden the emergency signal of 7 short and 1 long comes blaring over the speaker at 9:30 a.m. The captain announces over the loud speaker that we have a fire onboard and smoke coming from the Diesel Generator #4 in the forward engine room. Here we are in middle of the Atlantic between Spain and the United Kingdom and we have a fire on board. Deb – get out of the shower now!
Now 9:46 a.m. the Captain is back on announcing that there is NO fire but they did have a breach of the high fog sprinkler system which activated prematurely – there evidently was no fire – the cause of this sprinkler release was due to a turbo failure on diesel engine #4. With five engines in still working order we are proceeding on our way to the next port with speed is being maintained at 17 knots – no need to run to the life boats at this time.
As the evening comes to a close I thought I’d provide some updates. I had to re-qualify in the blackjack tournament. My $2,000 total got smashed today which removed my name from the final table listing. Thankfully I’ve requalified with $3,000 so that should keep me in good shape for the finals. Deb and I placed second on the slot tournament so this too should keep us in good position for the final playoffs held on the last sea day of this cruise segment. Most importantly we continue to sail towards Portland, England and there have not been any further issues with the fire/smoke issues that occurred early this morning.
Dressed to the nines, everything went well at formal night – it’s really one of my favorite nights – seafood night – I had one serving of the crabs legs and yes I ordered a second plate of the surf and turf. After dinner we had them shoot some photo’s at various locations around the ship and then headed to the 10:00 p.m. show – the first show we’ve attended since the ship left Rome.
That’s it for today – again thanks for following Deb and I as we head to our next port-of-call in England.
