Kate Louisa Shipton died of consumption (TB) six weeks after her husband. One can barely imagine the effect of this appalling tragedy. Having seen her husband die, Kate would have progressively realised that she was probably going to suffer the same fate. As a mother of three young girls aged 6, 8, and 10, her anguish must have been unbearable, relieved only by her own, tragic death.
