Ok so we've arrived without too many hiccups...minor detour and the M25 but apart from that nothing major has gone wrong...i have not managed to lose my bank card yet (it didnt work temporarily, but that was a small blip), we have not managed to lose one another or loe anything and we have managed to get from A to B just fine. For those of you who dopnt know, my friends de, helen and later on Alix, decieded to go away this summer..cheap flights got thwe better of us and we have come to malaysia and then on to indonesia for 2 months. Sadly this time around my blog will not consist of the antics of very annoying children, which always made writing interesting, and probably reading too..who knows, i find it easier to log whats happend thro this. However fopr those of you8 who dont know my friends, they are quite scatty...slight understaement! before we had even left, de and i whildst booking our flights, sitting next to one another managed to book different return flights, two hours apart...they have luckily been changed, and helen deleted her booking confirmation...we got here tho! However the first minor problem we ran into, us thinking it would all be fine if we just pitchred up for the evening train, were told that it would be US$100 for the over night train as there was only 1st class left....tired, extremely hot, and my hair already doubbled in size due tio the humidity and having navigated our way to the train station from the metro on foot we rethought our plans and decided to go the next morning and stay in singapore. We found a hostel, had very nice tour of singapore via taxi (during rush hour, but i'm sure that taxi driver was just doing it to rip us off) dumped our stuf and relaxed. In the train staition the next morning de needed tea and asked for one to take away...a takeaway here consistted of a plastric bag, straw and rubber handles connecting it...we went to the our extreme this morning and found an actual starbucks and had a real coffe...no condensed milk which they seem to like adding...uck!
What i have noticed so far is that asian people have weird obsessions...take example a) on the flight from dubai to singapore...i would say there were 2 couples in their 40-50's (i'm useless at guessing ages) all playing computer games, all with the same gormless expressions, and even fell asleep with the controls in their hands...then technology generally, showing off the latest phone and playing music on the train...which was extremely irritating...so taking the train from singapore to Kuala lumpur was very easy, went through cutoms and it was all fine adn dandy. Arrived in KL and what a change from singapore...huge, absolutely ginormous! and one of the wierdest cities i've been to. nothing fits, the suppsed centre is veryy rich and quite clean, the toher spralling areas are disgustingly dirty, such a change from the sparklingly clean sigapore. Today we went to the pertronas towers in the sntre...amazing architecture...got slightly sidetracked by the shopping centre inside...but it was as if i was in a slightly more upmarket version of the one in basingstoke...everything is western...they seem to have anpther pbsession with everthing to do twitht eh more devellopped countries. Even their skin products whixch is quite shocking,m have whitining agents in them to have fairer whiter skin. This is very different to south ammerica, when iremeber it was an exciting event to find a pizza hut in lima and mcdonalds in quito!! Another thing are the shops, too many mobile phone shopes and one that was entirely pink and completely dedicated to hello kitty...its just wierd.
Anyway my firneds are calling as they're hungry...but i will update soon with hopefully some more slightly interesting news. LOts of love to you all xxxx
