This morning I arrived, bright and early, in super sunny and warm Perth. The weather here is beautiful, but unfortunately I promised myself that before I have ANY fun I must complete my chores - namely laundry and plenty of it. This really is going to be the test for all those tops I bought in Bondi that I've only just realised have 'do not tumble dry' stamped all over them. It's a sad moment when you knowingly shrink clothes, but unfortunately dorm rooms in hostels don't always offer the most space for hang drying.
Anyway, enough about laundry, as riveting as it is, and more about me please. Tommy took me along to a day festival in Sydney called Days Like This, which turned out to be a really fun day with only a couple of minor tragedies. These were: 1: I drank so much vodka red bull I couldn't sleep until 6am the next morning (I know, I know, I'm not 16, I should know better) and 2: the sad but somehow inevitable death of my camera. It got dropped. And not by me interestingly enough. But I shan't be pointing fingers or naming names …. Ian. I did, however, purchase a rather dashing hat. I don't think it will last long.
We managed to see Morcheeba, which I think I enjoyed more than the rest of our crowd who looked like they were about to turn narcoleptic, a few dance groups and Mr. Scruff. Even managed to catch a tiny bit of Public Enemy spouting political nonsense (yawn) as we left. All in all I had a really fab time, and Tommy's friends have been so lovely, I felt really at home.
But enough with the holidaying and on with the expedition (because that really is what this is ladies and gentlemen, a detailed and dangerous expedition to the unexplored and undiscovered regions of Australia… starting with Perth). I truly am an adventurer, non?
So now my aim for today is to stroll around Perth and replace poor little camera-kins before I start twitching through lack of photography. Perhaps a little doze in the botanical gardens. Oh, and some lunch, always lunch.
And then the rest of Western Australia is my oyster!
….well, once my laundry's done.
