Maggie is a kangaroo serial killer, almost...
A few days ago we made our way to Ayres Rock; a mean 460 km from Alice Springs. The rock is big, red and bulky. It is absolute massive!
The red dessert sand itched everywhere and Cairns' tropical beaches now 2900 km away seemed like paradise. While taking in the sunset over the rock we decided to do the trip back home to Alice the same evening. There can't be that many kangaroos willing to be sacrificed as road kills, the Europeans thought... Most people will probably be able to do the trip without any other blood on the bumper than the layer of mosquitoes. But we will guarantee you that you after this trip are familiar with the break and the profile of a kangaroo. After around a hundred kangaroos and wallabies standing ON the road, jumping OVER the road, jumping AWAY from the road, jumping PARALLEL to road or plain lazing about on the road not noticing Maggie's grinning grill approaching hastily, we finally concluded that Maggie's brakes work.
We've now had a few days in Port Douglas after several teenage days in Cairns. Today and tomorrow we'll investigate Mission Beach before we head south to Airlie from where we're catching a katamaran for a two day cruise around the whitsundays to see who is not cut out for the life of a sailor.
And btw, Dirk is back so the quartet is now again complete.
