Amsterdam - 3 days
Arrived in Amsterdam after a 50 minute flight....hardly worth opening a book! the public transport here is brilliant and very easy to use.
Found our hostel ok.....but were a little shocked to find that we were sharing the top `deck` of a double bunk....we hoped we didn`t appear to be anything more than just good friends!!
We were sat at the hostel bar for no more than 3 minutes before Alice managed to embarrass herself!! We had got chatting to the English maintenance guy who was incredible at juggling and Alice thought it would be a good idea to get involved and impress the guy with her `outstanding` juggling skills - failing to mention her inability to throw past the second ball!! Instantly Pam took our drinks aside to avoid any spillages - which she thought was an inevitable outcome! Indeed she was correct as Alice managed to launch the third ball into a bowl of crisps spilling them everywhere - not at all embarrassing!!
In some of the big European cities a company runs a free tour of all the major sites, working on a tip only basis.
Places we visited in Amsterdam were......
The Old Town, The Red Light District - which thanks to our wonderful budgeting we were able to visit and not have to work it, Jewish Quarters, the most famous `coffeeshop` and Anne Frank`s House etc etc!!!
On the third day we hired a bike which originally we had planned to hire for the whole day! So we cycled out into the direction of the countryside...or so we thought! we never actually reached any countryside or windmills as promised - apart from half a windmill and 1 goat as we had unwittingly followed the wrong canal out of the city!! we stopped for lunch and then realising we could harldy sit down we cycled back - a round trip of just 3 hours!!!
We followed this trip up with an educational visit to the Sex Museum! Not much to say on this as we are still slightly scarred from this experience!
photos to come....
