Dover, UK
The thing about kids is they will always play up when you most need them to sleep. To prove this, Nishaan was awake on and off through the night complaining of pain in his legs....then it was arms....he pretty much worked through every body part before finally falling asleep. It didn't last though and he was wide awake at 3:45am....closely followed by big sis.
So after packing the last bits and bobs...we waved goodbye to our beloved street at 5:00am and started the first of our many driving stints. The drive to Dover was fine with no real issues...except my irrepressible back-seat driver habit which kept me occupied enough to suppress my motion sickness. Sod's law - kids didn't catch up on their missed sleep-time and instead chatted and sang the whole way so by the time we got to the ferry terminal they were beyond excited....
The ferry services have improved since I last travelled on one from the UK....there was a family area with a member of staff running kids activities which kept the kids occupied for a while....ahh bliss!
The brekkie options were as drab as expected so thank goodness for my lovely mummy who had packed me a huge stack of theplas and chakri!
It's always so funny when you're sipping on your ever-so-British PG tips and then you pull out your spicy breakfast chappati and your fellow passengers can't help but look with interest at what you're wolfing down.
So after the motion sickness kicked in on the ferry I pretty much zoned out and before I knew it we had arrived in Calais....! Woohoo!
