Our trip back to the UK to drop off the bike was hassle free. We stayed a night in Ipswich before having the bike cleaned and dropping it at the shipping depot in Felixstowe. We picked up the hire car, our transport back to London and checked in to The Premier Inn at Heathrow - a real find, modern hotel with great facilities and at the right price. After a great dinner and a good night's sleep it was time to catch our flight home. We were ready!
It is always difficult to end a blog with something reflective about your journey. We have, on past blogs, recorded the number of hotels stayed in, the number of countries visited, a list of memorable museums and favourites about our trips. This time we are using something different - The A to Z of Europe 2018.
Here we go:
A - Another bloody Castle, Cathedral, Church - take your pick!
B - Barcelona, unusual architecture, interesting food. Sorry we missed you Jarrod Owens.
C - Cavern Club, Liverpool - a true Beatles experience.
D - Dam Busters, another great history story told and visited from start to finish.
E - Estonia, a visit to pay our respects to Joey Dunlop.
F - Finland was clean, tidy and graffiti free. Helsinki was an easy city to visit using public transport.
G - Germany, a country of precision and structure but less people communicate in English.
H - Hop On Hop Off Bus tours are a great way to initially explore a new city.
I - Isle of Man TT - another great week of motorcycle racing, RIP Dan Kneen and Adam Lyon.
J - Jerez Spain MotoGP - no one does MotoGP quite like the Spanish. They are crazy!
K - Krakow, thanks Delma for the recommendation, we truly loved this city.
L - Latvia and Lithuania, didn't go much on Riga in Latvia, but Maryjampole in Lithuania was lovely.
M - Mountains, The Pyrennees and Andorra beautiful riding great shopping.
N - Norway, can't beat it for the scenery - fjords, mountains, lakes, cities, forests it has it all!
O - Omaha Beach Normandie, 6th June 1944, D-Day Landings
P - Prague, our second visit but just as memorable, a city well worth having on your bucket list.
Q - Qatar Airways, efficient, friendly and reasonably priced - would travel with them again.
R - Riding for a 3 month holiday is not as easy as you would think - some days it's just hard work!
S - Sachsenring MotoGP, well run with terrific racing - just wish smoking was banned in the stands!
T - Tangiers, Morocco. Not on our revisit list, a tired city that needs a good spring clean!
U - Used the wet weather gear 5 or 6 times and then was not for whole days
V - Villers Bretaneux, ANZAC Day 100th Anniversary Dawn Service, a truly memorable experience.
W - Warsaw, really enjoyed the differences between the Old and New in this historical city.
X - Taking the wrong eXit can get you very lost.
Y - Yes, we still have places in Europe to visit - so we will go again!
Z - Zum Anger Hotel in Neukirchen - great if visiting the Sachsenring
Hope you have enjoyed the tales of our travels. Till the next trip……………………………..
