Hello people,
Last time we left it off the day before we did the Maya Beach trip and tour around Phi Phi. It was really good, we started it off with a trip to a beach that had a load of monkeys on (not monkey beach though- that's later) afte that we went to shark point (no sharks though) we did some snorkelling there, which was really good, saw loads of fish and coral etc. Next stop was Bamboo Island where we stopped for lunch, we had it on the beach by the sea and after got in a bit more snorkelling, which followed the trend of Egypt because I (Tom) got bitten by a fish again, quite a few times. I don't know what they like or don't like about me. After Bamboo Island we headed off to Mosquito Island, where we stopped to do some snorkelling but not before some people on the boat threw some bread in the water for the fish who went mental, we could see loads of little stripy fish fighting at the surface to get to crumbs of bread. Again the snorkelling was really good and the fish seemed appeased by the bread so no nibbling on me this time. Mosquito Island itself was a really big rock that was really beautiful with emerald green waters, Elisa saw a big red crab in the coral here but I couldn't seem to spot it. Monkey Beach was next on the agenda, the boat couldn't get onto it because of the coral so we swam from the boat. There was hardly anything on the beach itself and it was pretty beautiful but wasn't too good for swimming because of loads of rocks at the shore and the coral further out, good for snorkelling though. After Monkey Beach we headed to Koh PHi PHi Lei the smaller brother/sister to Koh Phi Phi Don where we were staying and which everyone thinks of as Koh Phi Phi. There we went to a small bay andI did more snorkelling, the reef took up most of the water so the boat couldn't go in. Elisa decided not to go snorkelling and missed two clown fish, which I spotted after some help from another snorkeller, they were hidden in some coral. The final destination of the trip and the best by far was Maya Bay where 'The Beach' was filmed. To get to it you could either swim or get a kayak from the boat in a bay behind it, Elisa opted for the kayak because she wanted to stay dry and not get 'cold' because it was late. Her plan didn't work out too well because someone must have rocked the kayak and it overturned and every one ended up in the water-haha. So we both ended up swimming through the bay behind to a wooden ladder, which led into a forest behind. We walked through it and came out of the trees onto Maya Bay, which was absolutely beautiful. I think we can even call it according to Elisa's standards 'the perfect beach'. The water was light green, the sand was white and it surrounded by high leafy rocks on all sides with a gap where you could just see the sun set.
Next day we decided to move on to Krabi and followed a friends advice to go to Railay Beach. Railay is also really beautiful and dotted all over with limestone cliffs, the beaches are really beautiful and have terrific scenery. There is also a cave, which we passed through. We met some of the local wildlife too, a big group of monkeys were having dinner time by the side of the path as we passed, there were some really tiny ones still hanging onto the bottom of their mums. On a not so good note Elisa got pooed on, on the beach by some sort of squirrel. Also my camera decided to wipe itself so unless they can be recovered by a techno wizard somewhere I'll have lost all my photos up until now .
At the moment there seems to be a storm brewing somewhere because the sky has been lit up with loads of lightening, forks have been flying across the horizon. Elisa keeps seeing loads of kittens to, she won't leave them alone.
Tomorrow is our last day in Railay and Thailand because th day after that we're off to Penang in Malaysia.
That's all for now. Our next blog will probably be from Malaysia, exciting...See you then.
