Well kids, a lot has been going on lately, but not so much internet access!Vegas was pretty intense overall, definitely Sin City. This place seems to be all about Booze, Gambling, and Sex.After picking up Simpson from the airport, we hit the strip. We realized that there is no open container law in Vegas and figured we might as well take advantage of the situation. We got a couple beers and just walked around. It's insane how many people are passing out cards with numbers/pictures on them to call for "full service" women. After avoiding most of those, not gambling, and just checking the place out we picked a place to hang out while waiting to meet up with a few friends that live in Vegas. We met up with Dan's friend Lauren, and one of my former college roommates, Ryan.It was cool to meet Lauren and great to see Ryan, I really haven't seen him since college, so I was happy about that.We ended up wandering around some more before Dan and I followed Ryan back to crash at his place. That was nice of him, thank you Ryan, it was good to see you, come visit sometime!
The next day we were headed out towards the Grand Canyon, and made a stop at the Hoover Dam.I wasn't sure how cool the Hoover Dam would be, but it was pretty awesome. We even saw some mountain goats ramming each others heads together right as we drove in, SO YOU KNOW IT WAS GOOD!Hahaha. The dam was cool, but overall a short visit. On the way out the car next to us had left their window open with their GPS on the dash, so I left them a little note advising that they might want to avoid that in public places.Good deed for the day right?!
Off to the Grand Canyon, Mountain Time Zone right?Wrong, AZ doesn't observe Daylight Savings Time…Riiiight.Funny though, when we went due North of Canyon later this week, Mountain Time.
The Grand Canyon was amazing upon first glace, it's nuts that this thing was formed over the years purely from erosion due to water. We got to our campsite, set up shop and made dinner.Supposed to be a huge weekend of backcountry camping.Unfortunately, when we hit the trail the next day, which was very poorly marked, we couldn't figure it out and had to turn back. Not a big deal though, this hike would have been a little much in my mind and we ended up camping out again and doing a really nice day hike the next day.The Grand Canyon was pretty awesome overall, too bad we didn't make the backcountry trip, but the views were amazing and good times were had.
Hit Zion today, it was a lot different than I thought it was going to be, but it was really cool. The Emerald Pools were probably the best, the lower pool was a little oasis in the middle of this desert canyon.Overall the area is pretty lush though.Climbers were all over the walls, looked like great climbing.Dan and I tried to get down The Narrows, but the water was a little too high.We even found a way to get over the river just to try and extend the trail for ourselves, but no dice, soon enough the water was just unsurpassable.
After Zion we headed up to Bryce and since it was later in the day we just did the scenic drive to get a taste for the hike we have planned for tomorrow morning. This place is gorgeous, the views and the colors are just fantastic.I can't wait to check out the hodoos up close in the morning!
Trip schedule has once again changed. After reevaluating this week's schedule, it has become very apparent that I made this week's drive schedule waaaay too conservative. That coupled with a few other things, it seems I will be in the Denver area by Friday night, and might be home in NY by the end of next week.Hang on sports fans!
Uploaded new pictures of Vegas, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, and Zion.Bryce, and Arches hopefully to follow in the next few days!
