"Shanghai, 340 meters above ground"
The breakfast in the hostel was included. And it was not too bad, so I would have some dumplings, and some oath with milk. Shanghai is a large city, and there is so much to see. I tried to get across as much as possible, including the "People's Park" with the free Shanghai Museum in it. The museum is big, and has a lot of very interesting exhibitions, showing Chinese history in various categories as calligraphy, currency, bronze and stone sculptures. The Chinese was long before the rest of the world in most advanced techniques that have revolutionized society, including paper money.
And judging from the buildings I could see when walking in Pudong, the financial district in Shanghai, they have spent some of those paper bank notes. The skyline is better to be seen from the other side of the river, so I took a subway to an area I had not seen, to walk down to the river and get some pictures of the skyline. What I saw was the largest differences between poor and rich I have ever seen in one city. Where I got out of the subway, everything was really a wasteland. I could not believe people were living here. It was very cheap though, and I went inside a few stores to see what they had. One place I bought a pad lock, and in the tape store I bought some strong tape to use on the box I was shipping home from China. I also had some really cheap food. It might have been pig intestines. It tasted alright though.
Later I met Laura to go to the Jin Mao tower, one of the tallest in Shanghai. It does not have the most characteristic architecture, but it gave us prime views to the other, more interesting looking towers. We met up with Ellen and Fabian there, and took the elevator to the observation deck, 340 meters, 88 floors above ground. It was a great view! And they also have the "Aerial Post Office" up there, the highest post office in China.
Then we went to a restaurant close to "People's Square". The place we found was really s***ty, but it did not smell as bad as the other place we went inside. They people making the food were wearing the ugliest boots, and had no clue how to cook. And when Ellen ordered a bottle of water and a Coke, he ran over to the supermarket and bought some.
The night before we celebrated Fabians birthday in a bar, playing some pool, and pissing off some Chinese players. We were so bad, that they had to wait a long time when we were playing.
My last day in Shanghai I spent a lot of time in the post office, trying to make sure my package will arrive in Norway. I sent some souvenirs back, wrapping them in clothes I did not need anymore. It all totaled 12 kilos, and about 500 RMB.
