On Friday morning, David took me on a surprise trip to Capri, an island off the south of Italy! I couldn't believe he'd kept it a secret! I had really wanted to go to Capri, but didn't think I'd be able to. Needless to say, I was quite excited when I found out that I would be able to go after all, and with David no less!
We took a train to Napoles and then a boat ride to the Island of Capri. We were picked up at the main marina by the hotel chauffeur and brought to our 4 STAR hotel!!! It was the most beautiful hotel I've ever stayed in. They gave us cappuccino, juice and pastries while we waited to be checked into our room. They then upgraded us to an ocean view room! (It just kept getting better and better).
We then took a walk to the eastern side of the island and had a gorgeous view of the Italian mainland and down the cliff side to the waters of Capri. For dinner, we went to a fancy restaurant overlooking the harbor, which was all lit up and sparkly. The waiter gave us a complimentary appetizer, which was heaven on a plate (I said it just kept getting better)! We had sea food dishes and a chocolate mousse for dessert - meaning I ordered mousse and David had a small bite. Not that I complained! After dinner, we walked down the hillside back to our hotel, admiring the views of the hillside houses lit up.
The next day, we had a complimentary breakfast in the hotel. David had an omlet and I had a cappucino, toast and yogurt. The fresh fruit was delicious!
After breakfast, we went to the main harbor and boarded a small boat for a private boat tour around the island! The 2+ hour boat ride was breathtaking. The Island of Capri is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen in my life. The water was unreal. Hawaii is the only place that comes even close in comparison!
As part of the tour, we transfered to a smaller boat to enter the Blue cave that Capri is famous for. The opening to the cave was no more than 3 feet above the water. I honestly didn't think we'd fit through it! David sat in the back of the small boat and I sat right in front of him. We had to lie town on the floor of the boat. Our guide told us to keep our heads down and he grasped onto a chain going into the cave and rocket-launched us into the cave in time with the waves. The experience was very much like a ride at Disneyland! Upon entering the cave, the ceiling rises a bit (so you have plently of room to sit up). The cave appears to be floating on the water as you cannot see the rock under the water. The water glows a surreal aqua color. After 5 minutes in the cave, our eyes adjusted and we could see that the ceiling was also glowing aqua blue due to the reflection. It was beautiful!
The rest of the tour provided even more gorgeous views of the island. The pictures from the trip can explain it better than me, but still don't do Capri justice.
That evening David and I headed back to Florence as our trip came to a close.
In Florence, we went to a restaurant on my street for dinner. It was the best meal I've had in Florence! We had bruschetta for an appetizer; I had veggetable soup and David had a chef salad. Four our main dishes, I had pumpkin ravioli (which was HEAVENLY!) and David had fresh wild boar! We shared a steak dish on the side. After dinner, we grabbed gellato and stood on the Ponte Vecchio as we ate our dessert. The perfect end to a perfect trip!
The next morning, bright and early (expecially early thanks to our daylight savings) I put David in a Cab and sent him to the airport so he could catch his flight back to California.
