Ok, as usual I ha so much to tell you all! So on Wednesday, as I said, Jetteke and I headed to Eungella NAtional PArk (pronounced yung-ella) from Mackay. Our first stop was at a gorge called FInch Hatton Gorge, which was wonderful, the water was clear and pure, a little cold! But lovely, then we headed further into the park to see some platypuses. We saw one, he was so cute! A lot smaller than I expected, around 40cm maybe, and he was swimming around diving down looking for food. They're quite fascinating, they store their food in pouches for later and their tales are as wide as their heads. Also in the same river where a family of turtles where swimming around and an eel glided across our path. we had to stay really quiet and still otherwise the platypus would have gone away.
We had to stay up to catch a 2am bus that night, which wasn't very fun, we should have gone clubbing or something, but i don't think i could have controlled my bag with a few drinks in me! All someone has to do is blow and i'll fall over!
Our next destination was a town called 1770- named after the year Captain James Cook landed in Australia. The hostel is lovely, very clean, very friendly and big. Unfortunately, 2 guys in my dorm snore quite loudly which dries me mad at 4am when i've woken up and can't sleep aftr that, but apart from that it's good. Yesterday we went on an excursion with the local hostels here- as a group we hired bikes- proper vespas that looked awesome and we toured around the town on these! It was great! So much fun, and the bikes went really fast (don't worry, appropriate safety gear was issued). After about an hour we stopped on the side of the road to watch a group of about 15 wild kangaroos, we managed to get really close and i got some great pictures. After some more photos on the bikes we drove around for another half hour befor stopping at a pub for a can of beer, some potato wedges and an excellent view of the sunset oer the ocean. It was perfect. That tour was very good value for money and so much fun. Will put the pictures up as soon as i get to a decent computer.
Today, was our surfing lesson. Ha, it's really quite hard! The guy teaching us, let's just say wasn't a born teacher and was more concerned with getting pictures to sell to us afterwards, then teaching us how to surf. That said it was a lot of fun, and although i didn't manage to stand up fully, i kind of got to a one knee, one foot stance. My bloody feet and legs got in the way! It didn't help being told one thing by one instructor and something else by the other. Never mind, i had a go, i think i need another lesson- im determined to stand up next time! By the time Chey gets out to Oz, I hope to be able to catch a wave so that we can surf together. Fingers crossed. Either that or ill just watch and take pictures!
Tomorrow is another early start- im getting used to seeing what 5.30 is like, then we're heading to Hervey Bay where hopefully i can catch up with Lis and Ali! Can't wait to see them!
Right i'd better go, i'm starving hungry. Hope you're all ok, thanks for reading still, i love reading your comments. Will speak to you all soon no doubt.
